Schnee Klaus is a mysterious fellow, said to be old as the sun and young as a budding rose-flower...
Each year he brings joy to thousands on the longest night of the year, raining down twinkleberries from the clouds above.
You see, twinkleberries only grow on the highest peaks of Chibu, and ripen on the winter solstice. They are extremely sour if eaten raw, but when cooked under a low heat for many hours they release the most heart-tingling scent and soul-warming flavor.
With a crystal flute he summons his faithful water-elemental mountain goat, Krimler, who climbs upon the falling snow, leaping from snowflake to snowflake with his icy hooves that sparkle like stars (or at least so the tale is told!).
However they make their climb, they arrive at the highest peaks in the Kingdom, miraculously harvest thousands of twinkleberries at dusk, and then gallop the cloud tops across the lands, sprinkling them down over every town, forest, field, and creek! Where the clouds end Schnee Klaus creates his own, being the powerful water elementalist he is, and adults and wee-little-ones alike look to the night sky to spot this streak of cloud raining berries like twinkling stars.
Festivities and food follow, as families travel across the countryside in friendly competition, to see who will collect the most twinkleberries this year.
This is occasion is known across the land as Sparklefrosts Day!
